14 rescued following hostage situation near Alamogordo


New Mexico State Police say its Tactical Team members rescued 13 hostages and one three-year-old child following a hostage situation at McGinn's Pistachio Farm near Alamogordo Sunday afternoon.

Police say none of the hostages were injured.

Officers took the suspect into custody, who police say is being treated for injuries he sustained in a crash prior to entering the building.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau are now further investigating the incident.



New Mexico State Police officers are responding to a hostage situation at McGinn's Pistachio Farm in Otero County, the department announced in a news release Sunday.

Police say they are currently negotiating with a potentially armed suspect inside one of the buildings. Hostages are believed to be in the building with the suspect, according to the release.

Tactical Units, Crisis Negotiation Team, and all other available resources are at the scene, police say.

Police ask anyone nearby to avoid the immediate area.
