2 people test positive for TB after possible exposure at Hanks High School

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Two people have tested positive for Tuberculosis after possibly being exposed to the infection at Hanks High School, the Department of Public Health confirmed Wednesday.

Officials say the two patients will be evaluated by a TB specialist and receive X-rays to ensure the infection hasn't developed in their lungs.

The health department has not yet confirmed whether or not the infected patients were students or staff.

As KTSM previously reported, about 140 people in the high school have potentially been exposed to the infection. So far, 138 have been screened.

According to a news release, those who have tested negative will be retested within the next 8 to 10 weeks as a precaution.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial illness acquired through breathing in infected droplets from the cough or sneeze of a person with active TB.
