6th annual ‘Red, White and You' job fair held in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas - More than 700 veterans and their spouses attended the 6th annual “Hiring Red, White and You” job fair in El Paso, according to organizers with Workforce Solutions.

The annual event connects job seekers with employers looking to hire people with military experience.

Karen Aviles, an Army veteran, was at Thursday’s event recruiting for Charles Schwab.

When asked about hiring veterans, she said, ”What’s I’ve noticed is the discipline and attention to detail.”

Gennaro Gazotti, an Army veteran, was also at Thursday’s event and said, “I just came out of the Army three years ago, I finished my associate’s degree and I’m trying to get into the workforce.”

Nathaniel Muir with Workforce Solutions told KTSM, “The thing about the vets is they already have a lot of experience. With the average job seeker, they come to these events and they kind of go with whatever looks the best -- the vet is a little more experience and know what they want to look for.”

Alina Morin with ZTEX Construction said her employers support hiring military because of their experience and positive attitude.

Morin said, “We support our veterans. We are very thankful for the service they have provided for our country.”

Thursday’s event was one of many happening across the state.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, more than 16,000 veterans and 2,000 employers attended statewide job fairs in 2016. In its first five years, Hiring Red, White & You! has connected more than 58,000 veterans with over 8,400 employers.
