Convicted felon arrested for illegally crossing border

VAN HORN, Texas (KTSM) - An aggravated felon with an "extensive criminal history" is back behind bars, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday.

According to a news release, Eliseo Franco-Ornelas, 60, was arrested Friday for allegedly illegally crossing the border about 100 miles away from the Presidio Port of Entry.

Officials say Franco-Ornelas previously served 15 years in prison for the aggravated assault of a peace officer.

Franco-Ornelas was taken to the West Texas Detention Facility and will face Aggravated Felon Re-Entry charges.
