El Paso, Texas (KTSM) - U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed in Lordsburg captured a convicted sex offender Sunday.
Agents arrested Ezequiel Duarte, 47, after discovering him and four others walking along the side of the road in an area "notorious for human smuggling".
According to a news release, agents then questioned the group on their citizenship, to which three said they were citizens of Guatemala and one of Honduras. The four were then arrested.
Immigration and criminal databases reveal that Duarte, one of the Guatemalan citizens, had an extensive immigration and criminal history, including a rape conviction involving a 12-year-old.
Duarte is charged with re-entry of an aggravated felon after removal and is awaiting prosecution.
Officials say the other detainees also had extensive immigration histories and will be charged accordingly.
