El Paso County Sheriff's Office hosts special training

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is hosting a special training for law enforcement agencies across the SouthWest at the El Paso County Coliseum.

The Special Response School is being held from August 7th-11th.

Agencies taking part along with EPCSO are ICE and corrections officers from Arizona and New Mexico.

They are focusing on riot control in prison and urban settings. NewsChannel 9 got an up close look at the training operations.

Each officer is required to take the course by the agency. In total officers will receive 40 hours of training.

Officer Luis Trevino with EPCSO says the practice is essential for public safety.

"If there was a violent crowd, violent protest they could call us out so we could safely remove people from areas they don't belong," Trevino said.
