Former Mayor Cook donates fire truck to small Chihuahua city

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Former El Paso Mayor John Cook made a generous donation to a small Mexican city Friday.

Cook presented a 1980 American La France fire truck to a fire department located in Temósachic, located about 300 miles southwest of Ciudad Juarez.

The truck originally belonged to Cook's Feeding the Nation's Homeless Foundation. It was used to promote the sale of Señor John's BBQ, which was the major fundraising strategy for the Foundation.

The Foundation is no longer selling the sauce and therefore has no need for the vehicle. The Temósachic Fire Department, on the other hand, does -- up until this point, the Temósachic community had to fight fires with outdated and insufficient equipment.

"It's going to help a lot in the community," Andres Almeida, a representative for the town's mayor, says. "In case we get a lot of fires or just in case a fire gets started, now we have the opportunity to be there first and make it stop."
