Fort Bliss soldiers welcomed home from Central America

FORT BLISS, Texas (KTSM) - Soldiers of the 410 Civil Affair Battalion are back home in time for the holidays.

Members of the 82nd Airborne Division Association held a special welcoming ceremony Sunday morning for the troops returning from deployments to Honduras and Guatemala.

According to Fort Bliss officials, the mission was to prevent migrants and narcotics from being transported into the United States.

Brigade Commander, COL. Dean Thompson served as a guest speaker at the ceremony. Fort Bliss officials say former County Judge Veronica Escobar and retired CSM Phil Sloniger were also in attendance.

"We're extremely proud of the work that they did," Command Sergeant Major Wayne Hattaway tells KTSM, "and grateful that all eight are back home safe with their families."
