EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The funeral services have been set for slain Texas Tech Police Officer Floyd East Jr., according to officials with the University.
Officer East's memorial is set for noon on Tuesday, Oct.17 at the Abraham Chavez Theater in Downtown El Paso.
Law enforcement from around Texas and the country are expected to be in attendance, requiring the large venue. The public is welcome to attend.
Thursday, Officer East's family issued a statement to the community:
“We would particularly like to thank the Texas Tech faculty, students, staff and community; Chancellor Robert Duncan; Presidents Richard Lange and Lawrence Schovanec; the staff at Prudential; and Kyle Jacobson, who set up the GoFundMe account for Officer East.
“We are also appreciative of the law enforcement personnel and organizations that have reached out and provided support, including the Lubbock Police Department; Captain Larry Clendenning and the Texas Tech Police Department; the TTPD in El Paso; the El Paso Community College Police Department; the El Paso Police Department Pebble Hills Regional Command; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.”
A separate memorial fund has also been set up by Texas Tech for Officer East's Family. Visit give2tech.com/eastmemorial to contribute.
KTSM reached out to the El Paso Police Department for a list of possible street closures associated with Officer East's memorial. A spokesman said they will have additional information in the coming days.
Officer East is survived by his wife Carmen and his two daughters, Monica and Ana.
