Gang related assault cases on the rise

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Gang related Aggravated Assaults cases are continuing to rise in El Paso, according to police. 

According to a press release, EPPD has seen 66 Aggravated Assault cases in 2017 compared to 42 during first nine months of 2016. In addition to the increase in assaults, the number of call outs has increased from 49 to 71.

The total number of gang cases has more than doubled in 2017, according to police. In the first nine months of 2016 there were 256 gang cases - this year there are already 536.

The Gang Unit has arrested and charged 435 people in the first nine months of 2017.
