La Mesa man wanted on battery charges

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - Las Cruces Police issued an arrest warrant for a 29-year-old La Mesa man accused of punching and strangling his girlfriend early Sunday morning.

Investigators were called out to the 1100 block of La Fonda drive around 3 a.m. Sunday morning to a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived, they learned that the 26-year-old woman who lived at the home has been in a relationship with Eddie Carabajal, 29, for about a year and a half.

According to the woman, she was asleep in her room when she was woken up to Carabajal knocking on her bedroom window. When he came inside the home, he allegedly took a "shot" of cocaine and she fell asleep again.

When she woke up, Carabajal was allegedly straddling her and punching her in the face and body. He then allegedly attempted to strangle her.

The woman's mom heard the commotion and went into the victim's room where she reportedly grabbed a small baseball bat and hit Carabajal in the back until she was able to pull him off of the victim and get him out of the house.

He is also suspected of punching a window near the front door before he left the home.

Detectives are now hoping to locate Carabajal in order to take him into jail on the outstanding warrant of aggravated battery against a household member, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property. Carabajal has an address in the 200 block of Las Flores in La Mesa, NM.
