Labor Day Stabbing Suspect Arrested

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police arrested a 20-year-old man who is suspected of attempting to stab a 42-year-old man during a parking dispute in East El Paso over Labor Day weekend 2016.

According to police, they were called to the 3000 block of Manny Aguilera Dr. on Monday, September 5, 2016 after a 42-year-old man called to report that he'd approached a man sitting in a car which was blocking a driveway. The victim allegedly approached the man, identified as 20-year-old Jose Ricardo Rivas, and that's when Rivas became confrontational.

During the argument, the two pushed each other and Rivas went to his car and pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the 42-year-old man. Rivas allegedly fled the scene and the Gang Unit was called to investigate the unit. As a result of that investigation, a warrant was put out for Rivas's arrest.

It wasn't until March 25, 2017 when EPPD was investigating an unrelated incident in the 2900 block of Royal Knoll that he was arrested. Police say Rivas approached the officers at the scene and they learned that he had a warrant out for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Rivas was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $10,000 bond.
