SWAT situation at Las Cruces hotel ends in arrest

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - UPDATE:

Las Cruces Police say they've taken 39-year-old Wiley Yanez into custody following a SWAT situation at a hotel Friday afternoon.

The incident began around 1 p.m. when officers attempting to serve a warrant on Yanez, who was wanted on a felony count of failure to comply with conditions of his probation. 

Yanez initially refused to comply with officers demands and forced a standoff which was resolved after he was taken into custody without incident around 4 p.m.

All nearby roadways have since reopened.

Las Cruces Police are responding to a SWAT situation at the Hampton Inn on Avenida de Mesilla after a wanted man reportedly barricaded himself inside a hotel room.

The incident started around 1 p.m. at the Hampton Inn when the man, who has an active felony warrant, reportedly barricaded himself inside the hotel room. The man has so far refused to exit the room or obey commands from responding officers.

A portion of the hotel has been evacuated as a precaution. Surrounding business are asked to cooperate with officers in the area. An area of Hickory Loop near the hotel has also been temporarily closed to traffic.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
