Lights on the Lake returns to Ascarate Park

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - For the third year, Ascarate Park will be illuminated with a dazzling Christmas light display.

El Paso County Parks and Special Events is hosting its free "Lights on the Lake" event Saturday evening.

The one-night event features a festive run/walk, lighting ceremony, music, food trucks, and entertainment for the whole family.

According to El Paso County Parks & Special Events, no parking fees will be charged beginning at 3 p.m.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m  with the 1.5-mile Jingle Bell Jog, which is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Participants are encouraged to dress in their "craziest holiday outfits".

The evening program follows at 6 p.m. with performances by LAT Studios, a welcome by County officials, and the ceremonial light switch.

Santa and his elves will also make a special appearance on the Santa Ship float, where guests can take photos. Visitors can also take pictures in The Photo Bus and receive free prints.

The event will conclude with a free screening of "A Christmas Story" on a large inflatable screen.

Guests can either park in a designated area and listen to the movie on their car radios, or relax in a seating area with blankets and chairs.

The lights will be on display at Ascarate Park through early January.
