25 pounds of cocaine seized at Presidio port

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Twenty-five pounds of cocaine were found hidden inside a U.S. bound Kia Sportage at the Presidio port of entry early Saturday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

The seizure was made around 3 a.m. Saturday when the 2017 Kia Sportage driven by a 42-year-old Mexican national drove into the port from Mexico. The CBP primary officer referred the driver to the secondary inspection station for a more in-depth inspection.

During the secondary inspection, anomalies were spotted behind the engine compartment of the SUV. CBP officers drilled into the area and pulled out a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

A total of 13 bundles weighing 25 pounds was pulled from the hidden compartment.

The 42-year-old woman was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents for prosecution in the case.

Over the weekend, CBP agents working El Paso area ports of entry made a dozen seizures. In total, 378 pounds of marijuana, 27.3 pounds of cocaine and 7.1 pounds of methamphetamine were seized.
