El Paso, TX (KTSM) - The U.S. Army announced the deployment of the 1st Brigade Combat team, 1st Armored Division stationed at Fort Bliss to Afghanistan on Thursday.
The deployment includes approximately 1,500 soldiers as part of a regular rotation of forces in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The deployment will begin later this winter.
"The Ready First Brigade is well-trained, well-led and fully prepared for the challenges this mission will bring," said Maj. Gen. Pat White, commanding general of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss in a press release. "The brigade proved itself a disciplined and lethal force during a rigorous training program, and I am confident they will accomplish their mission in stellar fashion."
The 1st Brigade's former Commander, Col. Earl B. Higgins was relieved of command duties following an investigation into misconduct revealed several violations of Army regulations and policies in early September.
Col. Eric Strong was replaced as the Brigade Commander in the Fall.
