El Paso, Texas - In an effort to curb drunk driving and have a safe New Year's Eve and Day with no deaths on area roads, the El Paso Police and the Doña Ana County District Attorney's Office are each trying different tactics to get you home safely.
In Las Cruces, DA' Mark D'Antonio announced an ongoing partnership with ride-sharing app Uber, which will offer new users a $15 credit which is enough to cover the majority or rides in the Las Cruces area.
D’Antonio said, “As prosecutors, we see firsthand the harm driving drunk can cause. That’s why it’s important for us to be proactive and promote safe alternatives like designated drivers and Uber.”
Additionally, Uber will donate $5 to the Shattered Lives campaign for every new user who signs up and takes their first ride using the promo code NYECRUCES17.
In El Paso, area law enforcement and city officials have teamed up with Sun City Cab to offer free rides home from local bars if you've had too much to drink. The number to program into your phone now is (915) 212-7777.
As always, staying at home or designating a sober driver if you're planning on drinking are safe options!
