EPPD Officer Arrests Man After Foot Chase

El Paso, Texas - An El Paso Police Officer who was investigating an unrelated crime at a West El Paso Family Dollar Store was able to apprehend a man wanted on several outstanding warrants after he attempted to shoplift from the store while the officer was inside.

The arrest happened Tuesday morning around 11:53 a.m. at the Family Dollar located at 4200 N. Mesa when a Westside Tactical Officer conducting a separate investigation was alerted that a man had stolen five items, including an eight pack of beer from the store.

The man, later identified as 20-year-old Jose Luis Valadez ran from the scene but was eventually caught by the officer after a brief foot pursuit.

During the investigation, officers determined that Valadez had an outstanding warrant for Robbery and four outstanding traffic warrants. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond.

The property was returned to the Family Dollar Store.
