Horizon teen found unresponsive in desert has died

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - A Clint ISD student found unresponsive in the desert off of Horizon Blvd. Thursday morning has died, according to officials with the El Paso County Sheriff's Department.

The teen, whose age and identity have not been officially released, was found in a desert area near Horizon High School in the 14000 block of Horizon. 

The student was taken by Life Ambulance with CPR in progress to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Laura Cade with the Clint Independent School District released a statement on behalf of the district Friday. "We are saddened to hear of the passing of one our students. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones," Cade said. "To help our students deal with the loss, we have made counselors available at the schools in the Horizon Area."

Cade also confirmed with KTSM that the unresponsive teen was not located on Horizon High School property. 

El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
