Armed suspect near middle school in custody


El Paso Police say the suspect is in custody and the scene is secure. Police also confirm that the weapon the man was allegedly armed with was a pruning saw and not an axe and sledgehammer, as first reported.

The suspect was taken into custody for medical evaluation. 

 Officials with El Paso ISD say the school is now resuming normal activities and EPISD Police are remaining at the scene. 



El Paso Police are responding to a barricaded man with an axe and a sledge hammer near Nolan Richardson Middle School in Northeast El Paso this morning.

The incident was reported just before 8 a.m. in te 11300 block of Loma Linda. Police say a man has barricaded himself inside a home across from the school with weapons. The man is currently contained to the inside of the home.

As a precaution, administration at Richardson MS has placed the school on a lock out. No one is  currently allowed into the building. District officials say all students are safe and secure.
