Owners of emaciated dog charged with animal cruelty

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police's new Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit arrested a couple following a two-month investigation on Tuesday.

Zaida Gonzalez Torres, 44 and Noel Fernando Neri Chico, 48, are each charged with Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals.

According to police, patrol officers assisted Animal Services with a call Sept. 30 at a home in the 2100 block of Diciembre, near Hanks High School.

The couple's dog, Bella, a female English mastiff, was found emaciated from a lack of food and water. The dog was seized by Animal Services, but had to be euthanized due to her extreme deteriorated condition.

Torres and Chico were booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on bonds totaling $3,500.
