Police identify elderly woman killed in crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police have identified the elderly woman killed in a crash along Zaragoza Rd. Saturday evening as Maria Figueroa, 93.

According to police, Figueroa was a passenger in a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by 37-year-old Michael Figueroa. Just before 7 p.m. Figueroa was attempting to make a left hand turn onto the 1700 block Zaragoza from a parking lot.

At the same time, a 2000 Toyota 4Runner driven by Marcela Ochoa, 54, was traveling north on Zaragoza and struck Figueroa's car when he pulled in front of her.

Maria Figueroa was transported to Del Sol Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Michael Figueroa had minor injuries. Ochoa and her four passengers were all transported to Sierra East for treatment of minor injuries.

EPPD's Special Traffic Investigation Unit say failure to yield the right of way on behalf of Michael Figueroa is the contributing factor in this crash.

This is the 49th traffic related death of 2017 compared to 61 at this time in 2016.
