Second alleged DWI driver in EPPD crash identified

El Paso, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police have identified the man who EPPD officer Andy Rodriguez pushed to safety during a field sobriety test early Friday morning as Daniel Orrantia, of Canutillo.

According to police, Officer Rodriguez was conducting a field sobriety test on Orrantia after a crash on Montana Ave. near George Dieter around 3 a.m. Friday morning when another woman, identified as Sherry Lorraine Rodriguez slammed into the back of a marked patrol unit, sending the car careening toward Officer Rodriguez and Orrantia.

The dash cam footage shows Officer Rodriguez pushing Orrantia to safety shortly before he was struck by the EPPD unit that was heading toward them.

Orrantia was later booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on a DWI charge, he posted a $1,000 bond and was released the same day.
