El Paso, Texas - The trial for Steven Apilado, the 38-year-old man accused of shooting his own father in the head Thanksgiving weekend 2015 is underway in an El Paso courtroom.
According to investigators, Apilado was inside a home in the 12000 block of Stansbury Drive in Far East El Paso on the evening of November 28, 2015 when El Paso County Sheriff's Department Deputies were dispatched to the report of a possible murder.
When they arrived, they found Steven Apilado, who had barricaded himself inside the home. After an hours-long standoff, Apilado finally surrendered. The investigation revealed that Apilado had allegedly shot his father, Vincent Apilado in the head.
At the time of the murder, NewsChannel 9 spoke with neighbors who said that Apilado was mentally unstable and that his mother was completely distraught over what happened inside the quiet home.
Apilado is being charged with murder, his trial is being held in the 41st District Court, Judge Annabel Perez residing.
