WinterFest is back for second year

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The coolest, coldest and jolliest event of the season is back for a second year! WinterFest, the downtown family event featuring an outdoor ice rink, movies, holiday shopping, seasonal foods and great holiday decorations will return to Downtown El Paso for a second year.

WinterFest, presented by The Hospitals of Providence and Providence Children's Hospital, will open to the public a week before Thanksgiving on November 18. The fest will run through New Year's Day.

The Downtown Arts Plaza will transform into an ice skating rink once again. Festival goers can also visit the giant inflated snow globe, visit the El Paso Electric 25-foot holiday tree, enjoy Mexican hot chocolate in El Paso Live's Kringle Kafé and shop at the Downtown Management District's Winter Market Shoppes.

In addition to last year's favorites, Big Media and the El Paso Museum of Art are teaming up to display a giant mural on the museum's exterior wall that will create a family-friendly photo opportunity for all guests.

Skating passes go on sale November 1, with prices ranging from $5 for children 5 and under to $8 for adults. Season passes are also available for $35, which will allow pass holders to skate for one session each day.

Plenty of themed days and charity events will also be planned through the weeks including Ice, Ice, '80s Party, Skate with Santa and Let it Snow Day. Texas Gas will also be showing movies for free at the Plaza Theater on special days.
