LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - Las Cruces Police identified the 59-year-old victim of a hit-and-run crash last week as Orland 'Red' Jolliff of Las Cruces.
Traffic investigators were called to 2000 South Valley Drive near Farney Lane just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 where Jolliff was found unresponsive in the street. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Preliminary information indicates that Jolliff was walking south near the shoulder of South Valley \when he was hit from behind. Investigators said the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene. A second driver passing by stopped and called 911.
The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle has since been located and is being cooperative with investigators, according to LCPD. No charges have been filed and LCPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Jolliff was a frequent volunteer at the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope shelter where he ran the shower program and sorted donations, according to a social media post.
