Man suspected of kidnapping, raping runaway teen arrested

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - A Las Cruces man is accused of kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old runaway teen who was hiding on his property.

Johnny Christopher Wilson Lopez, 34, of the 900 block of east Madrid is charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration of a minor, criminal sexual contact of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to police reports, the teenage girl got into an argument with her family on the evening of Friday, Nov. 3 and ran away from home. The girl attempted to hide behind a trailer where Lopez lived while family and an LCPD officer searched for her.

According to court documents, Lopez saw the girl hide on his property and purposefully told police that she'd jumped a nearby fence. He then pushed the girl under the skirting of his mobile home and offered her water, a cigarette and a sandwich.

The victim told investigators that she hid under the mobile home for several hours until Lopez took her inside a room in his mobile home, locked the door and asked her to smoke out of a pipe described as "clear with a ball at the end."

The victim declined to smoke from Lopez' pipe, but did smoke marijuana when he offered it her. She told investigators she quickly became paranoid and scared by Lopez' behavior so she got up to leave the room.

Investigators say this is when Lopez pushed the girl onto a bed and repeatedly sexually assaulted her, even threatening her with a gun during the alleged assault.

After the alleged sexual assault, Lopez took the victim to a shed on his property and closed the door. She told investigators she ran away as soon as Lopez left and was located by an LCPD officer.

Court documents show the girl reported the incident as soon as she was returned to her family.

Lopez was arrested booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center Friday, where he is currently being held without bond.
