School security officer charged in sexual assault of teacher

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - A Las Cruces middle school teacher came forward last month to report a co-worker allegedly held her against her will and sexually assaulted her inside her classroom in September.

Tom M. Trujillo, 59, is charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, bribery of a witness and criminal sexual contact.

The alleged victim came forward to the La Pinon sexual advocacy center on Oct. 2 to report the incident. According to court documents, the teacher was new to the campus and did not know Trujillo before this school year.

The two began having casual conversations, but did not know each other well. On Sept. 26, Trujillo allegedly came into her classroom to make a report on a stolen $5 bill and grabbed her arm. He then forced her to an isolated area of the classroom where he groped her and assaulted her while she asked him to stop several times according to court documents.

Trujillo disputed the woman's account of the events, according to the documents. He told police that the two had been flirting and he grabbed her chest, but believed the exchange was consensual. He also told investigators that the alleged victim groped him back.

After an investigation, Trujillo was arrested on Monday and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond.
