Man accused of stealing cigarettes, assaulting 7-11 customers

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police arrested a 43-year-old man suspected of robbing an East El Paso convenience store and assaulting two customers on his way out the door. 

John Paul Prieto, 43, is charged with Robbery, Assault, Burglary of Building a Criminal Mischief.

According to police, they were called to the 7-11 convenience store at the intersection of George Dieter and Pellicano around 5:45 a.m. Monday morning on reports of a robbery. When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, later identified as Prieto, was arguing with the store clerk before he allegedly stole cigarettes.

Investigators said after the cigarette theft, he kicked a 19-year-old customer and punched, kicked and threw an 18-year-old customer to the ground before stealing his cell phone.

Police siad Prieto left the store, returned moments later and shattered the glass storefront window before leaving on foot.

Officers responding to the scene of another call in the area located Prieto and placed him under arrest. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on bonds totaling $20,000.
