Man arrested following DPS pursuit

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - An El Paso man is behind bars after he allegedly led a highway trooper on a pursuit, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Officials say the incident began at about 12:45 p.m. Monday after the trooper attempted to pull over Thomas James, 24, near Yarbrough and Gateway East.

According to Texas DPS, James "failed to stop and began evading law enforcement". He reportedly hit a DPS unit during the pursuit, and continued to evade officers.

Officials say James later crashed near the intersection of San Jose Rd. and Carpenter Dr. in East El Paso, and began running away on foot.

According to a news release, he was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with minor injuries sustained during the incident.

James was charged with evading a motor vehicle, evading on foot, and aggravated assault.
