New Mexico woman killed after item falls off semi-truck

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - A Columbus, NM woman whose vehicle was hit by a restraint that came off of an 18-wheeler that was traveling in the opposite direction.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. last Monday, June 12 on State Road 9 at Mile Marker 130 in New Mexico. When officers arrived, they learned that a Amelia Dominguez, 49, and her passenger Idalia Dominguez, 51, from Columbus, NM were in a Ford pickup truck when a tie down restraint came flying off of an 18-wheeler traveling in the opposite direction and hit the truck.

Both women were injured in the crash and Idalia Dominguez was airlifted to UMC in El Paso where she died as a result of her injuries on Saturday evening.

New Mexico State Police say the 18-wheeler that was involved in the crash did not stop and may not even be aware of its involvement in the crash. The witness accounts say that the truck was yellow, but no other information could be provided.
