Owner, founder of Pepe's Tamales dies

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The owner of a beloved East El Paso eatery has died.

Jose "Pepe" Reyes, the founder of Pepe's Tamales, passed away on Wednesday, according to the restaurant's website.

According to his obituary in the El Paso Times, the Coahuila, Mexico native opened the restaurant in January 1978. 

Reyes is survived by a wife, four children, and six grandchildren.

"He will be dearly missed by his entire family and the endless amounts of friends he deeply cherished," the obituary reads.

Visitation services will be held at from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 1060 Carolina. A rosary will follow at 7 p.m.

A mass is also scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church.

Reyes was 77 years old.
