Paz named as new principal at El Paso High School

El Paso, TX (KTSM) -

Mark A. Paz, the current principal at Canutillo Middle School, has been named the new principal at El Paso High School.

Paz replaces Kristine Ferret who was promoted to executive director of curriculum and instruction in October 2017. Ferret was reprimanded by the Texas Education Agency in May after it alleged that she allowed students who didn't show mastery of curriculum to still receive credit. Ferret denied any wrongdoing.

Paz has a bachelor's and master's degrees from UTEP as well as a doctorate degree from Walden University.  He is a former basketball and track coach in EPISD and served as a speech teacher at Armendariz Middle School.

Paz has also served as assistant principal at both El Paso and Austin High schools before being named principal at Canutillo Middle School.

Paz was nominated for the Region 19 Administrator of the Year aware in 2013 and 2015.

His tenure at El Paso High will begin after the winter break.
