LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - Las Cruces Police have identified the remains of Daniel Thomas Kearney, 28, who was found in a field near the 300 block of North Valley Drive last month.
A person working in the area near Fire Station 3 and Branigan Park located Kearney's body around 10 a.m. Oct. 19. His body was sent to the New Mexico Medical Investigator's Office in Albuquerque for autopsy and was positively identified.
One of Kearney's relatives reported him missing on October 11, after he hadn't been heard from in two days. Kearney reportedly suffered from medical issues. Relatives reported that he had an apartment and often spent time with people in the Las Cruces homeless community.
Kearney's body had no obvious signs of trauma, but investigators still have not determined a cause of death.
A court record search shows that Kearney had no major criminal history but had been arrested in September for failure to pay misdemeanor fines.
Anyone with information on Kearney's whereabouts between October 9-10, or may have spent time with Kearney in the time before his body was discovered is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795. If you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
