EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police have identified the two people killed in east El Paso early Thursday morning as Enrique Herrera, 45, and Stephanie Herrera, 25.
The suspected shooter, Jose Manuel Varela, 25, was found dead about four miles from the crime scene after he crashed through a rock wall after he shot himself.
According to investigators, Varela confronted Stephanie Herrera on Wednesday evening at a local business. Around 3:46 a.m. Varela went to Herrera's home in the 145000 block of Ava Leigh in a red Dodge truck.
According to witnesses, Enrique Herrera went to the door when he was shot and killed by Varela. He then went into the home where he shot at Stephanie, hitting her.
Two other people inside the home were attempting to render aid to Stephanie and Varela came toward all three in the driveway and fired at Stephanie once again. Police say the second gunshot is what killed her.
Varela drove away after shooting the Herreras and crashed into a rock wall in the 4600 block of Rich Beem, according to police.
Crime Scene Investigators determined that Varela had shot himself in the head just before crashing into the rock wall and into the backyard of a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
These are the 17th and 18th murders 2017.
