Professional pianist hosts Coronado High School masterclass

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Tuesday morning professional pianist Dzmitry Ulasiuk put on a special masterclass and piano recital for music students at Coronado High School.

Ulasiuk is originally from Belarus in Eastern Europe. He began his professional music journey at age 16. He has since released several recordings of his work and has toured across the globe gaining international renown.

He says he wants to teach the students of Coronado more than just the notes on the page.

"Express love through music, not just playing because they have to," Ulasiuk explained.

He says music has the power to change and connect deeply with people of all cultures. Although he says the path to success for these students will not come easy. Piano he says can be a very complex instrument requiring a true passion to become a professional like him.

Coronado freshman Kathleen Liang has been playing for 8 years and knows all too well the dedication it takes. She says music for her is therapy.

"I feel really relaxed and calm and happy," Liang said.

She was pleased with Ulasiuk's masterclass.

He'll be holding another piano recital in El Paso Wednesday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. it's free and open to the public.
