EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The El Paso Ronald McDonald House is now able to offer more services to the families they help, all to a new set of wheels. GM Financial donated a new van to the non-profit on Thursday.
The Ronald McDonald House has been helping families in El Paso for more than 30 years. Oftentimes, families come to the area for medical services for their children. The Ronald McDonald House offers them a free place to stay. This new vehicle will help transport the families to the doctor appointments.
"Today we got the delivery of our new vehicle," Frank Lopez, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House El Paso said. " We are just truly excited that we are part of the program and this vehicle itself helps our families and increases our mobility we can take more families."
The donation was especially touching for a member of the GM Financial family because the Ronald McDonald House once provided assistance for his family.
"My sister has a kid, that when he was 3-years-old, he actually had cancer and that's one of the places my sister stayed," Carlos Gutierrez said.
GM Financial plans to expand the program to 4 states, Texas being the first. The goal is to outfit every Ronald McDonald House in the US and Canada with a vehicle, should they want one.
