Seven charged with drug possession in school zone

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a week long traffic enforcement operation in school zones in Northwest El Paso from April 3 through April 7. In addition to the 112 traffic stops, EPCSO say that seven people were arrested for possession of controlled substances.

EPCSO, advised that the penalty groups for the drugs arrested ranged from Group 1 (cocaine, heroin, meth, oxycodone, hydrocodone), Group 2 (Ecstasy, PCP) and Group 3 (Valium, Xanax, Ritalin, Hydrocodone) but did not specify which controlled substance each of the seven were allegedly in possession of.

The seven arrests included the following:

  • Anthony Hernandez, 18, - Possession of Marijuana <2oz. and Possession of Controlled Substance PG 3
  • Vince Candelaria, 31 - Possession of Controlled Substance PG 3
  • Eric Carrera, 39 - Unauthorized Use of Vehicle (stolen out of town) and Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1
  • Vicente Fernandez Jr., 26 - Possession of Marijuana
  • Juan Figeroa, 25 - Possession of Controlled Substance PG 2
  • Bryan Garcia, 18 - Possession of Controlled Substance PG3 and Possession of Dangerous Drug
  • Norma Garcia, 51 - Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1

In addition to the drug arrests, EPCSO also made 112 traffic stop and issued 115 citations for various types of traffic offenses including 29 for an unrestrained child, 26 for speeding, 18 for no driver's license and 14 for expired registration and other.
