Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) - Las Cruces Police have arrested the man suspected at shooting at a woman early Saturday morning from a moving car.
According to police, Joseph Crespin Jr., 35, was in a fight with a 24-year-old woman on Friday night at a home in the 1100 block of Dove. The following morning, he allegedly returned to the house the next morning around 11:30 a.m. and again started fighting with the woman and her father.
Witnesses told detectives that the argument then escalated to the point where Crespin got into an SUV and pulled out a gun, pointed it towards the woman and pulled the trigger.
Somehow, the gun malfunctioned and didn't fire and that's when he allegedly handed the gun to an unknown passenger in the car and grabbed another gun - pointing it at the woman again and fired once, striking a car near where she was standing.
The woman's father grabbed a shovel in an attempt to distract Crespin and hit the SUV he was in. Detectives then believe that's when Crespin fired an additional shot toward the woman's father.
Thankfully, neither the woman or her father were struck during the incident.
Crespin then left the scene in an SUV and his whereabouts were unknown until Thursday when LCPD were able to locate him at a home on Watson Lane in Mesilla Park. He was taken into custody and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on one count of attempted murder and one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
He is being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
