UTEP's Sun Bowl named one of the most scenic college stadiums

EL PASO, Texas - In less than two weeks, tens of thousands of fans will be watching No. 24 North Carolina State take on Arizona State in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

However, the matchup isn’t the only thing that has people talking.

UTEP’s Sun Bowl stadium recently made USA Today’s list of most scenic college stadiums.

ESPN announcer Adam Amin told USA Today, “It’s right on the border. From the booth, you can go out the back and see Mexico. The stadium has been home to a lot of great football.”

According to the article, Amin spent Mexican Independence Day calling a Miners game and recalled watching fireworks come from the other side of the order.

UTEP booster Joe Gomez said the stadium’s location is a huge selling point.

He told KTSM, “You can actually go on that top concourse and get to see another country. A lot of the fans that come in from North Carolina State or Phoenix – they’ve never experienced anything like that.”

When asked about UTEP’s stadium making the list, Gomez said, “It’s truly become a tourist attraction for a lot of people.”

The Sun Bowl game happens on Dec. 29 and will feature a halftime performance from former Las Cruces police officer Frank Ray.
