UPDATE: Man suspected of murdering mother captured in New Mexico

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - UPDATE:

El Paso Police say that murder suspect Fernando Alarcon was captured in New Mexico this afternoon. No other information was immediately available.

 

EARLIER:

El Paso Police have put out an alert for a 31-year-old man who is suspected of murdering his mother inside her west El Paso apartment just before 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

Fernando Alonzo Alarcon, 31, is suspected of the murder of his mother, 62-year-old Graciela Acosta. On Thursday, EPPD were called to an apartment in the 5400 block of Suncrest off of Mesa Hills to check on a woman who lived in the apartment.

When they arrived, they found Acosta dead inside the apartment.

As a result of the investigation, police obtained a warrant for the arrest of her son. Alarcon is described as a Hispanic male, 31-years-old, 6-feet-1-inch tall, weighing approximately 195 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police believe he is armed with a rifle and is considered armed and dangerous. He's also believed to be driving a 2005 Silver Jeep Liberty with Texas plates HWS-5712.

Anyone with information Alarcon's whereabouts are asked to call 911 immediately. Do not approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
