Winter weather preps

EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) - The Borderland experienced it's first freeze of the year and the first snow in the past two years on Thursday.

Snow flurries were seen from far east El Paso to North West El Paso and everything in between and although the snow did not stick, it did leave the roads slick.

A spokesperson for TXDoT tells KTSM the roads have been treated with a water and salt solution to prevent ice from freezing on the roads.

DPS recommends drivers keep a blanket, water, non-perishable food, batteries and a flashlight in their cars and in the event they get stranded, they can call the road-side assistance number on the back of a driver's license.
