Woman awaiting trial arrested on separate drug charge

EL PASO, TX (KTSM) - The El Paso Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit arrested and charged three people after a Saturday evening stop.

According to EPPD, 22-year old Brianna Garay, 18-year old Jeshua Colunga, and 21-year old Carlos Garcia were inside a maroon Honda Accord that was stopped and blocking an alleyway in the 4500 block of Arlen, just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.

As Gang Suppression reportedly officers approached the vehicle, the officers could smell marijuana. Police say further investigation revealed 0.18 ounces of Marijuana and 4.2 grams of Methamphetamine were in the car.

All three are charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces. Garay and Colunga were additionally charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 More than 4 grams and less than 200 grams. All three were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

Garay also faces charged of murder in the death of Jose Castanon back in 2013.  Three people, including Garay, were charged with hitting Castanon over the head with a cookie jar, then stomping him to death in his central El Paso home. 

Sonia Bautista was convicted in 2015 and was sentenced to 48 years in prison. Ricardo Lorenzo Macias, Jr was convicted of manslaughter and aggravated robbery last Wednesday.  He was sentenced to 10 years probation on the manslaughter charged and 22 years in prison for the aggravated robbery charge.
