Woman detained while trying to burglarize car with man inside

LAS CRUCES, NM (KTSM) - Las Cruces Police arrested a 24-year-old woman who is suspected of burglarizing a parked car that had a 64-year-old man sitting inside.

Deziree Montes whose address is listed at the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope shelter, is charged with one count of burglary of a vehicle.

According to police, officers were dispatched Tuesday, Nov. 7 to reports of a car burglary in progress at the parking lot of the Motel 6 on La Posada Lane.

Responding officers met with the alleged victims who were detaining Montes at the scene until police arrived.

The 64-year-old man told investigators that he was sitting in the passenger seat of a Lincoln Navigator while his brother-in-law went to drop off a suitcase in his hotel room. As he waited inside the SUV, Montes allegedly opened the driver's side door and sat down.

While inside the SUV she began rummaging through items inside while arguing with the 64-year-old man. About the same time, the driver came toward the SUV and detained Montes until police arrived.

Responding officers say they located a wallet pinned between Montes' legs that was stolen from inside the SUV.

Montes was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center and later released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
