The World's Ugliest Dog contest started in the 1970s, where not-so-pretty but oh-so-adorable pups are celebrated in Petaluma, California. Here are some highlights of the contest's top dogs from the last decade or so.
Rascal, a Chinese crested, has won several other ugly dog contests, along with the World's Ugliest Dog.
Archie. With no teeth and a floppy tongue, this Chinese crested-Chihuaha mix lapped her way to the win.
Elwood. At 2 years old, this Chinese crested rocked the competition with a Mohawk and a unique tongue.
Gus. This Chinese crested had one eye and three legs.
Pabst is a 4-year-old boxer with a grumpy expression, thanks to a glorious underbite.
Yoda. This 14-year-old was a winning pup with a winning name.
Walle. A large head. A hump back. A duck-like waddle. These three loveably awkward features helped this 4-year-old pup rise to the top of the contest.
Sweepee Rambo. The 17-year-old Chinese crested, who has since passed, won after placing second in 2015.
Martha, a Neapolitan Mastiff pictured here with her owner Shirly Zindler, was the top dog this year.
