Christian Villanueva broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run, his second homer in as many nights. The Chihuahuas are now 23-10 after scoring the first run of a game. Villanueva and Jose Rondon both fell one hit shy of a cycle, with Villanueva needing a single and Rondon needing a triple. They were both due up in the bottom of the ninth but the at-bats didn’t occur because of El Paso’s lead.
Carter Capps pitched a 1-2-3 inning in relief, while lefty Brad Wieck allowed one run in one inning in his Triple-A debut. Wieck joined the Chihuahuas bullpen earlier in the day, coming up from Double-A San Antonio. Nick Buss went 2-for-4 with an RBI and is hitting .380 through his first 55 games this year.
