NMSU Men's Tennis Sweeps WAC Monthly Awards

Las Cruces, NM - New Mexico State men’s tennis swept the Western Athletic Conference monthly awards once again for the month of October the league announced Thursday.

 

Christofer Goncalves earned his second-straight WAC Player of the Month this season while he and doubles partner Luis Flores were named the WAC Doubles Team of the Month.

 

The Barquisimeto, Venezuela, product made a run at the ITA Mountain Regional but ultimately fell in the semifinals to the eventual winner. During that run, the senior ran through his opponents and didn’t give up more than four points in any set. He had won eight-straight matches before bowing out in the semifinals. Overall, Goncalves wrapped up fall play with a 13-3 overall record.

 

In doubles action, Goncalves and Flores continued their tear on opponents, cruising to the round of 16 at the ITA Mountain Regional before picking up just their second loss in the fall. The top Aggie doubles team finished their fall season 9-2 together.

 

Head coach Carlos Vargas and company now get some time to rest up and prepare for the spring season, which is slated to begin on Friday, Jan. 28, against Mesa Community College. Admission is free for all home matches.
