NMSU Women Travel to West Coast for LB Classic

Las Cruces, NM - The New Mexico State women's basketball team travels for the Long Beach Classic on Dec. 20-21. The Aggies open the tournament against Northeastern on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. MT.

Northeastern enters the contest with a 4-5 overall record. The Huskies snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Vermont 71-66. NU set the program’s three-point record in the victory when they hit 15 shots from beyond the arc.


Jess Genco has started in all nine games for the Huskies and averages 14.3 points while posting a team-high 54 assists. Loren Lassiter comes into to the contest averaging a team-best 8.4 rebounds while also tallying 3.4 points per game.



Illinois State travels to the Golden State holding a 4-5 overall record and a 0-3 record on road. The Redbirds have yet to play on a neutral site this season. ISU looks to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Butler, Milwaukee and Cleveland State in the team’s last three contests.


Leading the way for the Redbirds is Hannah Green, who posts 13.1 points per game. Megan Talbot averages 9.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in her nine games played. Playing the most minutes so far this season for ISU is Viria Livingston who has nine assists in her nine starts this year..



Long Beach State comes into the tournament with a 2-8 record on the season with both victories for the team coming on the road. After starting the season 0-5, the Beach took down Arizona 80-72 to snap the skid. LBSU also took down New Mexico State’s Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon 65-63.


Shanaijah Davison cones into the contest with averaging a team-high 13.1 points per game while also playing the most minutes for the Beach. Cecily Wilson averages 6.4 rebounds per game to lead LBSU. Ma'Qhi Berry leads the Beach in assists this season with 35 so far for Long Beach State.



NM State took down Pepperdine 86-64 for the team's first road victory of the season. Brooke Salas bested her career record for points in the game, scoring 32 in the victory. Zaire Williams left her name in the NM State record books for assists in a single game when she posted 16 for second all-time. She also 13 points for her second double-double this season. Gia Pack was a rebound shy of a double-double as she tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.



Following the tournament, the Aggies return home to take on UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 29, with tip-off scheduled for noon MT.
