The New Mexico State women’s tennis team’s run at the ITA Regional Championships came to an end on Thursday at the Eccles Tennis Center as the remaining Aggies in competition bowed out.
The second day of action started off with doubles play for NM State. The Aggie duo of Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio fought back-and-forth with Idaho’s pair of Marianna Petrei Lucia Badillos, but couldn’t hold them off long enough and fell 8-7.
Vanessa Valdez faced off against the top-seeded player in the top singles bracket later in the day, but couldn’t fend off Denver’s Julia O’Loughlin, 6-1, 6-0. Eli Arnaudova bowed out of the top singles flight as well on Thursday, dropping her match to UNLV’s Samantha Li 6-1, 6-2.
In the bottom singles bracket, Harlas took the first set from En-Pei Huang of UNLV, 6-4, but Huang roared back in the second set and forced a third before claiming the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 over the Las Cruces native.
New Mexico State now returns home for a week off before heading up I-25 for the Halloween Howl Invite hosted by the University of New Mexico Oct. 27-29.
