El Paso, TX - The UTEP women’s tennis team will travel to Laramie, Wyo., for two dual matches against Nebraska-Kearney and Wyoming on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and then to Boulder, Colo., to compete against Colorado on Sunday. First serve for Friday and Saturday’s match is set for 11 a.m. MT, while Sunday’s match will start at 10 a.m. MT.
The Miners (2-6) are coming off a down-to-the-wire home loss to Houston last Saturday. Representing the Miners will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association No. 48 doubles pair of Vivienne Kulicke and Milou Pietersz, Duda Santos, Lois Wagenvoort, Raven Bennett, Daphne Visscher and Maria Paula Medina.
Nebraska-Kearney (3-0) will open its spring season against the Miners. The Lopers went 3-0 in the fall season and will bring its No. 1 doubles tandem of Ana Royo and sophomore Camryn Parnell. Royo and Parnell are undefeated with wins over Colorado State-Pueblo, Metro State and Colorado Mesa.
Mountain West school Wyoming (5-2) is entering Saturday's competition on a two match win streak after last Saturday's 6-1 victory over Montana State. The Miners hold the all-time series lead at 6-3, last meeting Cowboys on February 28, 2016 at the El Paso Tennis Club, where UTEP won 4-3. The Cowboys are paced by Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg at the No. 1 doubles spot, while Magdalena Stencel (3-1 in dual play) leads the way playing the top spot in singles.
The Miners will round out the weekend on the road with a dual match against Colorado on Sunday. The Buffalo are 6-1 but will meet with Air Force today before hosting UTEP. The Buffs hold the 6-1 all-time series lead against the Miners, the last meeting being a 5-2 victory in neutral play in Albuquerque Jan. 24, 2016. Leading the Buffaloes is Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, playing at the No. 1 spot in singles, with a 6-1 dual match record.
